History of the InnThe house, shown from the back in the picture at left, was built in 1868 by Ebenezer T. Osborne, who owned a meat market in Golden and who was also active in local government. The original house, including the chimney in the living/dining room, was built of locally-made bricks. The upstairs was added in 1870. Rooms in the 1868-1870 house are Clear Creek (the original bedroom), Yankee Girl (with the first bathroom put in the house), Tyrone, and Columbine. The Shakespeare Room was added in 1928 when the owners at the time took in a lodger (often a single or widowed lady who worked at the Colorado School of Mines), and it feature the original 1928 bathroom. The addition containing the Gold Queen, Silver King, and Veteran suites was built in 1998 by Tim and Connie Sheffield, who owned the inn from 1996 to 2005. The suites were originally their family bedrooms, but Bill and Annette remodeled them as guest rooms in 2005-06. The Dove Inn became a bed and breakfast in 1984, and has always been called The Dove Inn. The rooms and suites are named for 19th Century mines in Clear Creek County (the Idaho Springs area not too far up into the mountains from Golden). There was also a Dove Mine in Clear Creek County . Bill and Annette bought the inn in March 2005. |
